A website is sending me push notifications. How do I unsubscribe?
If you’re looking to unsubscribe from notifications, here’s how to do it:
If you have Windows or Linux OS, you can simply right click on the notifications and block further notifications from a particular site.
Else, you can go to Chrome Settings -> Show Advanced Settings -> Content Settings (within Privacy Settings) -> Notifications -> Manage Exceptions.
Here you’ll get a list of all websites from which you’ve enabled notifications and you can choose to deny any particular website from sending you further notifications.
Go to Firefox Preferences -> Content -> On the right hand side of ‘Notifications’, you’ll see the Choose button. Click on it. You can either select a particular site and click ‘Remove Site’, or click ‘Remove All Sites’ to disable all websites from sending you notifications.
How does ZetPush track unsubscribes?
I) Through Google’s Firebase Cloud Messaging service
The FCM API sends ZetPush a list of subscriber IDs to which the notifications can no longer be sent.
ZetPush then marks them as Inactive or Unsubscribed in its own database.
II) Through cookies
Whenever a visitor subscribes to your websites’ push notifications, ZetPush stores a cookie file in their browser. This contains a unique subscriber ID for that subscriber.
How can I determine the Subscriber ID of a visitor to my site?
A subscriber ID is a unique ID assigned to each user subscribing to push notifications from your website. The subscriber ID is shown by the ZetPush API, which you can map in your own database. The subscriber ID of a user can be found as per the instructions on the API documentation page.
You can also get the subscriber ID of a current user by using the variable zetpush.subscriberId.
If you want to send a message to a list of subscribers created programmatically (for example, by running an SQL query on your own database), please perform the following actions:
Get your API key.
Access the “zetpush.subscriberId” variable, as per the API documentation.
Use an AJAX along with the User ID field in your database, to a server you control.
